Larry Springford - January Speaker Series 

The Lumiere Institute in Lyon, France, was a fun visit to one of the birthplaces of cinema, founded in 1982. Larry provides a nice overview of the grounds and delves into the career of the Lumiere brothers. Some clips of truly remarkable motion pictures were included along with descriptions of early equipment. 

Also featured will be "Behind the Beauty - a history of Southern Arizona".

Larry Springford graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned in the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers of the Canadian Army.  He qualified as an Army pilot and aircraft maintenance officer, serving in various postings in Canada and Europe. He commanded the Maintenance Company of 4 Service Battalion in Europe as a major and later the Land Engineering Test Establishment in Canada as a lieutenant colonel.

Retiring from the Army, he worked in various engineering and operational positions at the Bruce Heavy Water Plant of the Nuclear Division of Ontario Hydro making heavy water for the CANDU reactors of Ontario Hydro.

Due to the posting in Europe, he developed a passion for traveling which carried on into retirement.

Larry developed an early childhood interest in photography and moved on to video in 2001. After joining the GVR Camera Club and attending Multi Media SIG he had the opportunity to learn from others and to pass on some of what he had learned.

He enjoys presenting his work in the GV Camera Club and the GV Travel Club as well as at the Arivaca Film Festival.
