Bird/Nature Photography: Whitewater Draw for Sandhill Cranes by Bus 01/09/2024
Cost $70 (Same price as last year!)
This important bird area is dominated by an ephemeral lake, patchy marshlands, and semi-arid grasslands. Approximately 600 acres are the wetland. There are two small patches of riparian habitat. This Arizona Game and Fish Wildlife Area is of state and regional significance as the primary wintering area for Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) in Arizona and includes both the Lesser (most numerous) and Greater subspecies. Other birds may be seen here as well.
This trip will be led by bird and nature expert, Sandy McMahan, who is a long-time teacher and trip leader. Whether you're an expert birder/photographer or a beginner, you will enjoy Sandy's narratives. If you have binoculars, you may want to bring them along. A small notebook and pen or pencil would be useful to record your sightings.
Bring a lunch and be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. A hat and water are suggested. There will be room in the bus's understorage area for tripods, monopods and chairs if you would like to bring them. We'll be here about three hours.
Meet at the Photography Club upper-level parking lot at 9:15 AM. The bus will leave at 9:30 AM.
Mike McMinn will be our leader. For questions call Mike at (810)516-0220 or email at mikefore@comcast.net.
