San Agustin Mission Garden and Living History Day at the Presidio San Agustin 1/13/2024
Trip Cost $11.00
We will start this field trip by visiting San Agustin Mission Garden whose mission is to preserve, honor, restore, recreate and promote the cultural heritage and historic landscapes of Tucson's birthplace at the foot of Sentinel Peak. Mission Gardens has 11 different gardens representing native plants, early agriculture, Hohokan and O'odham agriculture, a Spanish Colonial Orchard, Mexican, Chinese, African American, Anglo and Yaqui gardens.
We will then drive to Presidio San Agustin Museum for a Living History Day at the Presidio with the theme of the month being "Garrison of the Frontier". This is a program that brings life inside the walls of the Presidio. Volunteer re-enactors provide a glimpse of the Garrison life truly was like back when the Santa Cruz River flowed. We will start the day with a 30-minute tour of the Presidio led by a docent.
Additional information about the Presidio is available at Tucson Presidio Living History
For lunch we will go across the street to El Charro restaurant where the trip will end about 2:00 p.m.
Both the Mission Garden and the Presidio are outdoors. Please be sure to wear flat shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. Please wear your GVR Photography Club badge, if you have one.
A parking lot is located next to the Presidio for $5.00 a day and needs a credit card to pay. For those carpooling, $5.00 is an appropriate contribution to the driver for gas and parking.
