Al-Marah Equine Center -- Monday 03/10/2025

Al-Marah Equine Center (AMEC) creates and disseminates knowledge and provides outreach to improve the lives of horses and people. AMEC was a generous gift from Ruth “Bazy” Tankersley to the University of Arizona College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences. This 88-acre facility in the Tanque Verde valley houses an equine breeding and training center that includes a breeding shed, 2 covered arenas, 2 outdoor arenas, 48 stalls, and meeting spaces. The center breeds, trains, and markets Al-Marah Arabian horses, which trace to Bedouin ancestors and are recognized world-wide for their temperament, athleticism, and beauty.

The photography club will have a walking tour at Al-Marian Equine Center. The group will be able to take pictures of the horses and the other natural sites near Sabino Canyon. Our tour leader, Maddie will have one of her horses for us to take close-ups and pet. The terrain is flat, but it is a large facility. If mobility is a problem, the facility has one golf cart for our use. After the tour we will have lunch at The Canyon Crown British and Irish Pub on 6958 E. Tanque Verde Rd. Meet at the Photography Club at 7:45 AM in the upper parking lot for carpooling, depart promptly at 8:00 AM. If you wish to carpool, $10.00 is an appropriate amount to give your driver.

GVR requires that every person participating in club's field trips must sign a one-time waiver absolving GVR of any liability. You will be required to sign the waiver at the Photography club before the trip departs if you haven't already done so.

NOTICE:

All participants need to be responsible for an assessment of their mobility and health issues relating to field trips. Some trips may not be appropriate, but you must make that determination. However, the trip leader may deny participation in a specific field trip to anyone deemed not suitably prepared or able to walk with the group.

The club strives to provide several field trips specifically designed for members with physical limitations.

In order to participate in this event, you must be a member of the GVR Photography Club and GVR.
